Student Mentoring

The School of Accounting's mentoring program helps first-year students complete the core subject BAO1101 Accounting for Decision Making. Mentoring helps first-year students:

  • establish a solid foundation for studies throughout their degree, particularly those students who are new to accounting;
  • to meet other students and to learn together in a relaxed and supportive environment.

Mentors are second or third-year students who have been selected and trained by the subject co-ordinator and other staff. During small, weekly group sessions, mentors provide first-year students with strategies and advice on how to get the most out of the subject, review areas of difficulty and encourage students to learn from each other..

Yes. You are assigned to a group at the start of the semester, but you don't have to stay with that group if you want to work with another one. If you wish to change groups, simply ask the student mentors of that group if they are happy for you to join them. You should also add your name to the attendance sheet for that group.
