For the past 13 years, the Centre for Hospitality and Tourism Research (CHTR) has provided excellence in hospitality, tourism and event research. In recent months the Centre has undertaken a process of restructure and has been renamed - The Centre for Tourism and Services Research (CTSR). The new name reflects the expanded activities and research specialisations to include small enterprise management and electronic commerce due to the important roles that these fields play in tourism. The CTSR will also incorporate an international Centre as a business unit. This international Centre is called the International Centre for Tourism Development (ICTD).
In order to ensure that its activities are anchored with industry’s needs, the Centre has formed strategic alliances with key industry associations such as the Victorian Tourism Industry Council (VTIC), the Victorian Event Industry Council (VEIC), TTF Australia and the United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO). Our team engages with government, industry and community to ensure that research is progressive, relevant and accessible.
The Centre’s primary objective is to produce high quality applied research that helps underpin the sustainable performance of industry partners and preserve the social and ecological environments of society. Whilst the Centre has substantial in-house research expertise, it draws upon researchers at other universities in Australia and overseas as well as a range of Adjunct and Associate research partners from industry and government. Ensuring that the outcomes of Centre studies are delivered in an industry friendly manner to enhance their uptake by partners is given a high priority within the Centre.
