Tourism Futures PRIPs Application

CTSR has been a major research provider to the Sustainable Tourism CRC over recent years and due to the STCRC’s heavy demands, there has not been the capacity in the Centre to engage substantially beyond the STCRC. Over the last 8 months, the ground work has been laid to develop a new research agenda and engage with a wide range of tourism stakeholders locally, regionally, nationally and internationally. PRIPs funding will underpin the core of this new research program and facilitate partnerships with external research collaborators, users and funding agencies to grow and sustain tourism and hospitality research as one cornerstone of VU’s research future.

Aim: Australia’s $80 billion tourism industry has major challenges. The industry’s capacity to brand, market and promote itself is well honed, but its capacity to build and manage sustainable destinations, which compete with the best internationally, needs innovative approaches. Our specific aim is to harness the skills of a multidisciplinary research team and, working with international, national, state, regional and local research, industry and community partners review, evaluate, develop, test and apply innovative theoretical frameworks emerging from tourism, management, economics and sustainability science disciplines to build models and tools suitable for tourism destinations to underpin their future growth and sustainability.
