The School of Hospitality, Tourism and Marketing is widely recognised for the quality of its teaching and the high calibre of its graduates.
In February, the University won the Australian Tourism Award
for training and education for the third time. The University also
took home the award - which is open to
TAFE colleges, universities, private providers and tourism operators
who train in-house - in 2000 and 1988.
Head of the School Professor Brian King said Victoria University was
Australia's longest established provider of tourism and hospitality degrees and diplomas.
"We continue to meet the needs of our students by forging partnerships with the community
and industry, and through innovative programs such as event management," he said. "VU is
recognised internationally as a leading provider of applied tourism and hospitality
research and is Victoria's only foundation member of the prestigious
International Centre
for Excellence in Tourism and Hospitality Education."
The national award follows the University's success at the Victorian Tourism Awards.
It has now won the state award for tourism education and training
six times, in 2005, 2001, 2000, 1999, 1988 and 1993.
Victorian Tourism Minister John Pandazopoulos congratulated Victoria
University on its state win. "The awards
process is not an easy one, nor is it meant to be," he said. "The
awards recognise people
striving for excellence - it's not about being first past the post."
In 2001, the University was inducted into the Tourism Awards Hall of Fame, the only university to win such recognition.
Victoria University began sponsoring the Victorian Tourism Awards in 2002.
