The 2008 Sir Harry Gibbs National Moot Competition is proudly supported by Victoria University’s, Victoria Law School Moot Court Society.
Sir Harry Gibbs was a former Chief Justice of the High Court of Australia and one of the nation’s most respected legal authorities.
He was a Judge of the Queensland Supreme Court (1961 – 67); a Judge of the Federal Court of Bankruptcy (1967 - 70); a Justice of the High Court of Australia (1970 – 81); and Chief Justice of the High Court (1981 – 87). Sir Harry had close ties with the University of Queensland, and the Moot Court was previously run by it. Sir Harry died in June 2005, aged 88.
This student body promotes excellence in written and oral advocacy. Under academic supervision the Moot Court pursues this objective and continues the well – established tradition within leading American Law Schools of the student-run moot court. This year, the Sir Harry Gibbs National Moot Competition continues to be sponsored by the Australian Association of Constitutional Law (AACL) and Clayton Utz.

| 10th September: | Written submissions due. |
| 29th September: | Opening reception – evening. |
| 30th September: | Oral rounds – Melbourne. |
| 2nd October: | Grand Final Round. Grand Final Dinner/Lunch |
